I am taking part in the Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride to raise funds for Children's Cancer Institute.

Every week in Australia, 20 children are diagnosed with cancer and sadly, three young lives will be lost to the disease. Children's

Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute wholly dedicated to childhood cancer.

Together, we can help more children with cancer not only survive but go on to live long and healthy lives.

My name is Harry and I’m a cancer survivor

Hi everyone,

My name is Harry. I’m 13yrs old and I'm an Oncology kid. This is my story.

When I was 7, I found a lump under my ribs and showed my mum. After visiting my GP I had an Ultrasound then a CT. They found a very big mass in my abdomen. They thought it could be a Stage IV malignant mass. Two days later mum and I traveled to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane leaving Dad, my big brother and my twin sister at home.

Everything happened quickly after that. After a biopsy it was confirmed I had Ganglioneuroblastoma. On my journey I underwent 5 rounds of chemotherapy and the exactly 6 years ago, right down to the month I had major surgery. They removed 3kg of the mass. Leaving behind two small tumours in my chest. After the chemotherapy, these were benign. They were renamed Ganglioneuromas. Unfortunately these still grow. I’ve grown a third one in my abdomen since 2017 but it’s small at the moment.

Last month, June 19th I had another surgery and they removed the chest tumours. I’ve gotten back on my bike in the last week and I’m keen to take on this challenge with my school and friends.
