Ride to the Rock 2021

RIDE TO THE ROCK '21

Join us for the RIDE TO THE ROCK '21. This charity event is a mass participation ride, not a race, to raise funds for Children's Cancer Institute and to give our TCBR Community an opportunity to get together, do what they love and support Children's Cancer Institute. is a breakdown of the distances and locations visited on The Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride.

The route has changed, the distance is shorter, but our commitment to curing kids with cancer has not changed. COVID-19 has altered the TCBR ride this year but our support for Children’s Cancer Institute continues.

When?

RIDE TO THE ROCK is new to TCBR for 2021. This one day ride is being held on Saturday 31 July.

There are 2 different start times, with the longer ride, The Boulder setting off at 6am and The Cobble & The Pebble setting off at 6:30am.

Don't let the early start scare you, there will be a coffee van available to get your morning started.

Where?

RIDE TO THE ROCK has a different start point to TCBR. We start and finish at 'Ignatius Park College', which is located at 384 Ross River Road, Cranbrook, Townsville.

Why?

The route has changed, the distance is shorter, but our commitment to curing kids with cancer has not changed. COVID-19 has altered the TCBR ride this year but our support for Children’s Cancer Institute continues.

More than 1000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year in Australia.

That is 20 children each week.

Every week, on average, 3 children and adolescents will die from cancer.

Children's Cancer Institutes ambition is to put an end to childhood cancer and pioneer safer treatments for children through medical research. We can and we will cure childhood cancer. With supporters like you raising vital funds to support our research. It's not if, it's when.

THE COBBLE

THE BOULDER

150km

IPC to The Rock return

This is the big one, 150km beginning at 6am, heading straight out along Ross River Road for Herveys Range.  Herveys Range is a friendly climb, where you should catch an awesome sunrise on the summit. You will pass 'The Pebble' turn around point, here you can stop for a rest break and say hi to our Volunteers.

Continue along the highway for a further 13km or so, and you will find turn around point 2, for ' The Cobble.' From here you're not far off your turn around point (25km) at 'The Rock.' Stop for a quick chat and fill up your water bottle before turning around to make your way back to Ignatius Park College. As they say, 'it's all down hill from here!'

There will be a cold drink and lunch waiting for you at the finish line.

THE COBBLE

100km

IPC to Herveys Range Control Station

Up for a challenge but don't want to ride all day? "The Cobble' is the challenge you have been waiting for. Leaving Ignatius Park College at 630am along with the 'Pebble' Riders, you'll follow the path of the 'The Boulder.' Straight up Ross River Road towards Herveys Range. Keep an ear out for the call of the local dingo population as you climb the Range. This might be your actual challenge, not having climbed it before. Stop for a second at the summit of the climb to take in the view and maybe a photo or 2.

From here, head on past 'The Pebble' turn around point with your sights set on Herveys Range Control Station. Here you will find your turn around point and a refreshment before you make your way back down the range with thoughts of a cold drink and a burger on your mind!

THE PEBBLE

75km

IPC to Herveys Range Tea Rooms

A smaller ride but still a challenge! After all, this may be your first time riding out to Herveys Range to tackle the climb, and what a great cause to do so. We will have Volunteers on course encouraging you along the way.

Once you have made the climb and maybe stopped at the summit for a photo to prove it, it's a gentle ride around the corner to your turn around point at the Tea Rooms. Stop for a refreshment before making your way back to Ignatius Park College to cheers of congratualtions and a burger.
