Townsville To Cairns Bike Ride 2019
This week I walked into my radiation oncologist's rooms, full of nervous tension and deep gratitude. After two surgeries, one round of IVF, five weeks of daily radiation therapy, and multiple medications, it was the week that I received the welcome news that I am officially cancer-free. It's also the week that I've started earnestly training for the Townsville to Cairns bike ride to support the Children's Cancer Institute. I simply can't imagine having to take this journey as a child or as a parent...the loss of opportunity is just so immense.
Every year more than 950 Australian children and adolescents will be diagnosed with cancer, and every week nearly three Australian children and adolescents will die of cancer. Children’s Cancer Institute exits solely to put a stop to this.
As the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to childhood cancer, our role is vital. Because, despite our progress, cancer still kills more than any other disease.
Our task won’t be easy – childhood cancer is hugely complex – but we’re confident that with the brightest brains, the best facilities and the greatest determination, we will get the job done.
